Shortcut to mute/unmute current application #7584
Comments
@CBouyer can you provide a use-case for why you would want to mute a specific application rather than just mute the whole system? My reason for asking this is that a global mute/unmute can be done in Keyboard Manager by remapping some shortcut to Volume Mute. |
@arjunbalgovind, I'm not the original poster, but I also agree that this would be a useful feature. For me, the use case is usually for when I'm multi-tasking, and want to temporarily mute the current window while I listen to something else. For instance, if I'm playing a game and a friend links a video, it would be easy to just press in a key combination to mute the game while watching the video, then press it again to unmute the game once the video is over. I find myself doing that manually right now by opening up the Volume Mixer and muting that individual program, but a simple key combination to mute the foreground application would be much simpler. |

Hi! We've identified this issue as a duplicate of another one that already exists on this Issue Tracker. This specific instance is being closed in favor of tracking the concern over on the referenced thread. Thanks for your report! |
This is not a duplicate. A mixer is different than this function. As a mixer would allow you to use a menu to change application volume. I and the other people on this thread want the ability to mute the active application using a key bind. My specific use case would be when I'm watching a video while waiting in a queue for a video game with loud music. It also would be useful for when your using other applications that you may want to mute. Since you don't need to navigate a menu in order to do it. Also if it integrated with ear trumpet that would also be nice. |
Description
It would be great to have a global shortcut to be able to easily mute/unmute focused application on Windows settings. This will be very helpful to turn off sounds on live meetings, streams, games or whatever we want.
Currently we have to alt+tab to go to sound settings to mute/unmute an app.
Expectation
Being able to mute/unmute current focused application with a simple shortcut (example: Ctrl+Windows+M).
