Allowing for variable depth in custom list views

When creating custom list views would it be possible to allow for a variable depth in the query. Currently it seems that the depth is hardcoded to 0 whereas other properties such as sort, where, and limit are all dynamic and can be updated based on the query string of the search params in the admin panel url.
