Using fixtures within package with --doctest-modules

Hello, I have a directory setup like:

root/
    my_package/
        __init__.py
        code.py
    tests/
        conftest.py
        test_code.py

Running pytest works great and runs the tests, of course. Now I also want to run pytest --doctest-modules my_package to test the docstrings in code.py. What is the correct way to setup fixtures when run this way? I don't want to create a conftest.py file in my actual package sitting next to code.py because then it would be part of the actual package and would bedistributed. But I do need to use some fixtures for the docstring tests. Mainly I need a couple fixtures to do some one-time setup to avoid a long calculation in each test (i.e. just do that long calculation once and then use the results in all the docstring tests).

I think I answered my own question here, just use a src directory. Then the conftest.py file can be in src but not in the actual package. So this can be called like pytest --doctest-modules src.

    src/
        conftest.py
        my_package/
            __init__.py
            code.py
    tests/
        conftest.py
        test_code.py
